Do You Have a Special Mug?

When I’m at home, I don’t really have a special mug that I drink out of. We have an assortment of mugs, so if I’m drinking something hot, I end up with whatever mug happens to be clean and ready at hand at the time.

I didn’t really have a special mug when I lived with my parents either. We had Tupperware mugs, and I must confess, I do like the feel of Tupperware in my hands more than glass, ceramic, or metal. I do not, however, currently own any Tupperware mugs. I don’t think my mom still has hers either.

But when I go over to my girlfriend’s house for dinner – she loves to cook for people! – she buys hot cocoa especially for me, and she has a unicorn mug that she’s made sure is clean for when I come over.

It can be a little awkward to handle, but I kind of love it. It reminds me – in so much as it’s a whimsical animal – of the creamer we’d use to pour milk out of when I was a kid. It was a ceramic elephant where the milk came out of its trunk spout, so we called it Ellie the Phant/Font.

Do you have a special mug? What does it say or look like?

  1. We have a collection of mugs we use daily. I have my special mugs (more than one) for different reasons and memories. My Professional Smartass mug given to me by a former coworker finally cracked after 20yrs. I must find a replacement suitable to the times now.
